13.2 Air Versus Surface Tracking

A majority of target tracking literature has focused on airborne targets. The motivation was generally for general aviation radar or military fighter applications. Due to the decades of research, the tracking of airborne targets has become a mature subject area. The focus shift from air to ground targets yields the question of how much material can be directly applied from the former to the latter. In order to answer this question, a qualitative analysis must be done on the subject. A thorough discussion, including a comparison table, is provided by Ref. [14].
